How similar is life in the military to being a Christian? It’s like going on deployment: focussing on the mission, trusting that what we need will be provided.
When deploying on an operation or exercise with your unit or smaller team, what are you thinking about? What do you worry about? What are you focussed on? And what can you expect the military to provide?
When we deploy on exercises and operations, we focus on the mission. We don’t worry about food and accommodation. We just trust that stuff to be sorted – what we need will be provided. We get on with doing our job, getting the mission done.
It’s the same with God’s mission. No need to be hung up about material things. Just get on with the mission:
Build God’s kingdom
And trust God to provide what we need, as Jesus says:
“And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Fathers knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” (Luke 12:29-31, NIV)
